As a massive wave of cold settles over the country, our first instinct is often one of irritation. It’s a disruption. It grounds flights, cancels plans, and keeps us from the relentless pace of our work. It feels like an obstacle.
But what if it’s not? What if this cold is a gift?
What if this forced pause is an invitation to be truly present? To feel the weather on our skin, to notice the intricate patterns of frost on the window, to take stock of the things in our environment—and in ourselves—that we’ve been too busy to care for.
This stillness offers a rare opportunity to assess the noise in our world.
For a moment, you don’t have to be driving to the next meeting or jumping on another Zoom call. The constant demands on your time recede, and in their place, there is quiet. In this quiet, you can take stock of your evolution. You can reflect on the person you are becoming.
Soon enough, the weather will break. The planes will start flying again, the emails will pile up, and the channels of distraction will once again take hold of your mind. Things will go back to normal. Or will they?
Does this cold give you a moment to think about what you’re truly building towards?
Who are you building it for, and why? What does that future feel like, sound like, and look like when you strip away the external pressures?
We are more distracted now than ever before. But that doesn’t mean our time is easier. In fact, it’s harder. It’s harder to make conscious choices about our TEAM: our Time, Energy, Attention, and Money. The constant barrage of information and obligation pulls us in a thousand different directions, leaving us feeling scattered and reactive.
The cold reminds me of the natural cycle of death and rebirth.
It is a necessary winter that allows for the vibrant life of spring. It is a moment to pause, to go dormant, and to gather strength for what’s to come.
What if we used this time to reflect more and react less? How much more in control would we feel? How much more intentional could we be?
This is the work we do in The Bee Suite. We create the space for builders to move beyond the reactive noise and find the clarity to build with purpose. We believe that the most powerful work comes from a place of stillness and intention.
So we invite you to embrace this cold. Let it be a peaceful moment of reflection. What is this stillness bringing up for you? What are you building towards?
